The KLEIN KAROO International Tannery is the largest of its kind in the world.  This state of the art hi-tech facility was opened in 1970.  Over the past four decades the traditional art of leather tanning has been developed into a specialised customade chemical process for the unique challenges presented by ostrich leather.

The latest available technology in computerised tanning and dyeing systems and procedures are operational.  The KLEIN KAROO  Ostrich Tanery boasts a fully automatic water dispensing system.  The chemical drum tanning system provde the capacity to process the leather of the full volume of skins bought by KLEIN KAROO  International.

Highly skilled employees in the tanning, dyeing and research and development divisions add optimal value to the raw product received from the abattoir.  Research and Development operates independently from the tannery.  The development of new ostrich leather colours and finishes as well as new applications is done in precision laboratory conditions.  These include testing equipment, experimental drums and world class machinery.
